On behalf of the pupils, Governors and staff I would like to welcome you to Homewood School. I hope that our website gives you an overview of what we can offer your child in terms of growing as a learner and an individual.
We are a maintained special school for students aged 11-16. All pupils who are referred to the school have an education, health and care plan. We place outstanding learning for our pupils as our priority and vision. Our main goal is to ensure that every student is provided the highest quality of education possible in a safe, supportive and caring learning environment. Working together as a team with our staff and parents, we are committed to helping each student achieve their very best.
At Homewood we have high expectations for all our students, learning is our core purpose and we provide all our students with a bespoke and relevant curriculum that is individualised to meet each student’s needs. We are dedicated to providing opportunities for all students to develop a range of life skills and moral values that enable them to better their life chances
We have a holistic, therapeutic approach, where every day is a fresh start, and pupils are treated as individuals. We have high expectations of pupils, and encourage them to be reflective, build their self-esteem, and do their best. We are ‘attachment aware’ and aim to help pupils deal with their issues and difficulties so that they can lead happy and fulfilled lives.
We aim to provide a safe, structured and stimulating environment where pupils are supported to overcome their barriers to learning. Pupils have access to the National Curriculum and a range of GCSE subjects as well as Functional Skills, AQA unit awards and vocational qualifications. The formal curriculum is well supported by additional activities planned around individual interests, especially vocational courses. Developing emotional resilience, through relationship building and therapeutic input, is key to pupil success.
We are part of Central Hub Brighton which comprises Homewood together with the Brighton and Hove Pupil Referral Unit (primary and secondary), and The Connected Hub (Year 11 Pupil Referral Unit).
All of our provisions work closely with parents/carers as well as with our multi-agency partners and professionals to ensure the needs of pupils are met both academically and pastorally.
Our website provides only a glimpse into the range of our provision, ethos, activities and the fun that our pupils and staff enjoy as they learn. Please contact the school if you would like to know more. Please let us know if you would like to discuss any aspect of Homewood or your son/daughter’s education.
