See the attached events to support your child in attending school

I am writing to you with regards to the Amber Weather Alert you may have heard about in the news that is expected to affect the South East area. The local authorities have written to schools asking us to give consideration to the potential impact of the storm, which includes damage to buildings and the impact the very strong winds may have on travel plans.  

As we plan our response to this developing situation I am keen to give you as much notice as possible about how this might affect the school day tomorrow. We will review the safety of each site in the morning to ensure staff and students can travel to school safely. 

We will notify you of any changes. If you do not hear from us then assume the sites are open as usual however there may be some disruption to public and taxi transport.

Our students’ health is important to us. You may be aware that October brings around the national Stoptober campaign to support people who want to quit smoking. Quit Smoking this October – when you stop smoking, good things start to happen. For information and advice on how to quit please click on the Better Health NHS website.

Are your family protected against measles? Check whether you and your children have had your MMR vaccines. 

Measles is now circulating in England and families are advised to check whether children, teenagers and adults are up to date with their measles, mumps and rubella (MMR)  vaccine, particularly before travelling this summer and before attending summer festivals where measles can spread more easily. 

Measles is a highly infectious disease which can lead to serious illness. MMR vaccine provides excellent protection against measles and is free on the NHS. 

Children are offered the first dose of the MMR vaccine at one year and the second dose at 3 years 4 months, but they can be given with as little as a one-month gap between doses, depending on age. 

To see if your child is up to date with their MMR vaccine, check their red book, or contact your GP practice. If anyone has missed one or both doses, contact your GP practice to book an appointment.  

It’s never too late to catch up on your MMR vaccination-  

     Families are advised to contact their GP practice to check they and their children are up to date.
